Are Yolo County Court Records Public?

The Clerk of the Court is required to entertain requests from the public and provide the desired records upon request. However, some court records are restricted to protect the interests of privacy and safety.

Due to their sensitive and confidential nature, the following information is unavailable to the public:

  • Litigation records of unresolved cases
  • Records involving minors
  • Adoption and child welfare records
  • Medical records
  • Trade secrets, and
  • Personal identifying records, such as Social Security Numbers and bank accounts
  • Records containing personal information on judges, prosecutors, magistrates, and peace officers, such as their phone numbers and home addresses.

What Information is Available in Yolo County Court Records?

The information available depends on the case type, format, and status. For instance, the record may be for a civil, criminal, probate, or family law case. Some examples of court records include pleadings, orders, motions, court injunctions, docket information, and exhibits. Information typically available in court records includes:

Yolo County Court Records Search

In-Person Access

Record seekers may visit the Criminal Division of the Yolo County Superior Court during office hours. Requesters are required to provide the case party’s full name to conduct a record search. They may use public terminals located at the courthouse to look up cases filed under that name.

Mail and Phone Requests

Record seekers may contact the superior Court on (530) 406-6700, or they may send mail requests by submitting a letter containing the case number, the names of the case parties, the type of document requested, and the number of copies desired, and any other required information. Fees for Court Records in Yolo County

Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (CPRA), the courts and other record custodians are permitted to charge fees to provide access to records. Standard copy fees cost $0.5 per page. Copies of documents cost $5 per page, with each additional page costing $2. Certified copies of documents cost $40 per document. Vital Records cost $25.

Criminal Records Access in Yolo County

The law in California permits partial disclosure of criminal records in Yolo County. Authorized requestors are permitted to obtain access to criminal records for employment-related purposes. In addition, other eligible requesters include childcare organizations, public utility firms, law enforcement agencies, and elderly care centers. Yolo County Probate Records

Yolo County probate records are documents that relate to probate cases, including the management of a person’s estate following their passing, adoptions, vital record corrections, wills, court-ordered guardianships, and name changes. The Clerk of the Yolo County Superior Court maintains records of the Probate Division of the Superior Court.

Interested parties may make an in-person, mail, email, or phone request to obtain Yolo County probate court records. To facilitate locating probate records, requesters should include the deceased’s name or the date of death. For in-person requests, requesters should visit the clerk’s office during office hours (8 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday).

To submit a mail request, requesters should prepare a written request with information about the probate record of interest. In addition, they should include the requisite payment by check or money order payable to the Clerk of the Court, along with a self-addressed envelope. Mail the request to:

Yolo County Family Court Records

Yolo County family court records are records related to cases involving parental rights, prevention of domestic violence, marriage dissolution, child custody/ visitation, spousal support, and annulments. The Family Division of the Yolo County Supreme Court oversees family law matters and maintains its records. Family Court records are not public due to the sensitive nature of the records.
